There are a number of reasons businesses adopt new technologies such as videoconferencing, the use of mobile devices and social networks. A new survey by American Express Business Travel in collaboration with the Institute of Travel and Meetings suggests the trends in adoptions of new technologies are perhaps different than commonly suspected.
The study breaks down the uses of these technologies into two contrasting roles. The first is the adoption of new technology as an alternative to travel. The use of tools like videoconferencing could eliminate the need for some corporate travel.
The second role these technologies play in today’s business is as an enabler of travel. The use of mobile devices and other communication tools can enhance a businessperson’s flexibility, allowing more on-the-road working, as well as working from virtual offices. (more…)
